Brazilian North-eastern cuisine fascinates visitors for its typical dishes and spices. Among the local cuisine dishes, we can list the following: fish, crab, rice and beans dish, sun-dried meat, cassava, cowpeas, among many others.
Ceará is also the largest Brazilian lobster exporter; therefore, it is the best place to try this delicacy at affordable prices. Lobsters are undoubtedly the main starts of the local menus, prepared and served to the customer’s taste. It is also easily found at beach huts, especially those at Meireles Beach.
There are excellent local cuisine restaurants in the neighbourhoods of Aldeota (more sophisticated), Varjota (mainly at Professor Dias da Rocha and Frederico Borges streets) and Meireles.
If you want to have a spectacular local dessert, head to one of the ice cream shops and try one of the exotic North/Northeast ice cream flavours such as: soursop, sapoti (sapodilla), cajá (hog plum), bacuri, tapioca, avocado and cupuaçu.
So if you like ice cream, you have to visit the most famous and traditional ice cream shop in town called “50 Sabores” (50 Flavours) – established in 1975 and with 110 flavours at your disposal – all home-made and fresh.
